Agreed. Harry Potter is the book that motivated me to brush up my English quick so that I can read its original text (I don't feel like reading the Chinese translated ones).
Actually I have this odd inclination for books with male lead - I don't exactly like to read those with female leads. I have some bad experience of coming across a few with whiny female protagonists. I was so annoyed when I read those books...
I originally picked up Twilight out of curiosity - because I couldn't understand the hype over it. I'm not going to elaborate on my detest towards that book - each of us has our own opinion - but I can say that I was greatly disappointed that the book wasn't worth the hype.

Yeah, you just have to choose the right book, I guess. If the author lets the characters fall too far into stereotypes the book just suffers so much.
I honestly don't see why so many people are in love with it. There's so much better out there. Plus, I've been reading Anne Rice recently - a lot of the ideas from Twilight are taken straight from her books, and it's so frustrating that Stephanie Meyer got so much rubbish from something so good!

And Vampire Diaries. Though VD is also pretty crappy to me. I don't read Anne Rice's books - I just don't like romance fics in general. The best I've read so far is Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights. Seriously angsty/tragic/depressing. XD It's very rare to come across love stories that don't fall into the cliche trap.
I use RPing as a platform to train in my character development for my muses. I'm happy to say that so far they are pretty good. In the past, my characters stick out like a sore thumb in many RPG, 'cause they are way too unique, and I feel that the other people's characters are somewhat dull. I find it difficult to tone down my character's epicness. Now I'm much better.

oooh, Interview with the Vampire is definitely not a romance. It's angst, yes, but definitely not a romance! And they are proper vampires. With coffins and everything.

Is that book by Anne Rice? O.o Currently I'm on a spy novel spree. So romance books will have to wait till my spy novel fever has came down... XD

It is =) but it's not a romance! Yes, it's not a spy book, but it's not a romance either!
Ugh, I really need to find a book... or some money to buy the one I want... Christmas is so annoying, it drains your budget!

lol, Christmas is more a cultural thing for us than religious... I think mum's the only one who in any way believes it, and the grandmothers... it's fun, though XD

O.O Speaking of which the Christmas hols already drained my budget. Now I need to find a way to thicken my skin to ask my mum for early Ang Bao money (a Chinese custom). I need to find a way to motivate myself to pick up writing again. Currently I'm so distracted with my life that I haven't been writing anything for a long time... Am I losing my touch?
