The Rule of Cool? I think not. More like the Laws of Awesome. They are absolute and they are true. It does not have to make sense as long as it is AWESOME.
Exhibit 1: Independence Day. You cannot hack-virus a technologically superior alien race with an old Mac Powerbook. It's like trying to break into Fort Knox with a water balloon and a three-day-dead herring. But it doesn't matter, because the movie is AWESOME.

Actually I'm pretty sure Jon Bon Jovi was in Cry Wolf...that movie was kind of awesome...
