There seems to be an attitude around at the moment which is:

Actually, I, along with a lot of the population, am not. While I wish William and Kate all the best for the future I don't actually give a shit about the wedding, apart from the fact that it's an extra day of holiday. I have to admit I'm laughing at the 100,000 extra tourists in London at the moment, mostly American it has to be said, who have come especially to be in the UK for the wedding. Sad, sad people. Maybe they should hold the wedding in the US, I'm sure they'll get even more interest that the media's whipping up over here.
No, the royal news that I'm interested in is whether or not they'll let older daughters inherit the throne before their eldest younger brother. Such a change would actually mean something.

the average American will talk to the people next to them to avoid embarrassment.
pretty much sums up the difference in cultures.
