Okay, this is going to be mainly ideas, for now, as we haven’t talked much about Earth magic. These ideas I’m going to share with you guys were formulate by Comma, Raven, and I during one of our MSN convos.
Earth (color still needs to be debated XP) Is a fairly new branch of magic that is, of now, recently being used by the humans. However, Earth magic has been widely used by the Elven race and Fairy Folk for many years before the humans. Because of this, their development with this element of magic far surpasses what the humans have. The humans had to discover how to harness Earth magic by themselves without the aid of the knowledge the Elves and Fairies had with them. This is because, if you have read the profiles of the Elf and Fairy races, both races have isolated themselves from the outside world. Knowledge of Earth magic, for the most part, has been limited and kept a secret from the humans. So, to put it simply, humans had to start from square one.
Earth magic encompasses all the forms and energies of the earth. This ranges from the motions of the earth to the very rocks and boulders and even the body of the earth itself. This is the basic grade of Earth magic that is commonly being used by Earth mages of all races. The higher power of Earth magic encompasses the many forms of nature, the trees and plants. Because the Elves and Fairies had the most experience with Earth magic, they have attained this level of magic long time ago and are more attuned to the natural world. The humans, unfortunately, are still experimenting with Earth magic. Only a few humans have become synchronized to the forces of the earth and nature and are able to harness the higher level of Earth magic.
Offensive forms of Earth magic are, of course, fissures, earthquakes, moving rocks, vines, trees, roots, etc. Any form of Earth than can hurt someone. The less offensive ways someone can use Earth magic is to manipulate the formation of the ground, to create bridge or walls of rock or plant, or to part away vegetation. Those are to name a few.
So far that’s what we have as a basis. What do you guys think? ^_^ Also we would love to hear your opinion on what color Earth should be.

Can i suggest for more elements? Such as lightning and ice? although lightning could be a higher form of fire and ice a higher form for water. -sweatdrop-

I'm not really sure about lightning. though we could relate wind and fire in a way that wind can increase fire power when combined with it.

Eh... I want it to keep it a bit simple and say lightning is a form of Wind magic and lava is another form of Fire magic.

That works i know some games use purple to represent wind magic. I know Fire emblem doesn't but it could work. as green to me more aligns with earth . but i am good with your suggestions as well.

Wait... what exactly are the colors for again? And is it only for the elemental magics or are colors going to be decided for the dark, light, fallen, fairy, minstrel and enchantment magics?
Alright, so since its been mentioned alot, what is everyone's opinion on the (possible) enchantment branch of magic which would include buffs, curses, and maybe healing magics? I'd imagine the clerics would use this area of magic alot but it would not necessarily be limited to them. Fairies have their own enchantment/earth magic, so I guess it could be considered a more universal... er... human... um... I think you know what I mean...
Any thoughts? Or maybe another name?
And I know this isn't the way it's being referred to, but... earth magic? This is Temecula, Earth is another planet possibly lightyears away, right? So why is it called Earth magic if the inhabitants don't and never have lived on earth? Technically, shouldn't the term be Temecula magic? Or maybe Teme magic for short? (lol. Okay, just ignore that last thought...) --Stalker *sinister laughter* <img src="http://i55.tinypic.com/219p4xg.gif" border="0" alt="-cuddleglomp-" />

Well... the colors don't do much expect just differentiate the magic itself. This is an RP and magic had got to have some color scheme. Or maybe not. XP Thought it would be a good detail to add. Mages of a specific element might wear robes of color of their element. Or something like that.
Well, in my opinion, healing magic is a different branch of magic and is apart from enchantment. Enchantment deals with altering something of a person, whether it be something physical or meta-physical. Ranging from looks and state to character and inner strength. I think most clerics and those of the religious order will deal with positive and passive enchantment spells like buffs and inducing sleep, etc.
I would believe that magic among races would differ slightly due to cultural and racial differences. So far it seems the Elven and Fairy race are more attuned with nature and thus their magic reflects that.
Definition of earth... 1. the third planet from the sun in the Solar System and home to over 6 billion humans 2. soil and dirt, the solid matter of a planet, etc. If people on Temecula call fire, fire, and water, water, lightning, lightning, etc, etc... wouldn't the same be applied with the synonyms of ground and soil? That's alright, was an interesting thought. XD

-flomp-
I know there's both offensive and defensive song magic spells that can be sung because of the following quote from Comma's 'keep in mind' character thread which mentioned the Temecula races.
Can we discuss a bit more about Minstrel Magic (song)? Both defensive and offensive aspects of it? I'm thinking its a bit like the enchantment magic clerics use with some twists, song medium instead of incantations, and racial adaptations and specializations. Any thoughts? And please, any spell examples?

Well... I would like to keep magic fairly simple for this RP as I'm scared of driving off people. So here's a thought. What if clerics, priests, etc. can wield light magic and heal others while the Minstrel race, with their song magic, can bless allies and curse enemies? This is their way of indirectly assisting friends when needed.
Also, another thought. This was discussed with a few of us and we wanted to share it with all of you. When it comes down to the elemental magics, doesn't it strike odd that nature would be a higher form of Earth when in reality nature is very prone to burning (AKA Fire). Same thing with ice being a higher form of Water magic. Liquid water seems to fight well against flames, but most video games portray ice as being weaker to fire.
To wrap this up, basically we were thinking why a certain form of the elemental magics have to be higher than the other. Why can't the elements take on different forms, but each of them are considered separate rather than superior over the other. If you think about it, it makes logical sense that the elements of Earth, Fire, Wind and Water would take on more forms than just rocks, flames, air and liquids.
Sorry if I'm confusing all of you. >< It's a little hard to explain. Basically each of the four elements branches of into different forms of their respective elements as the elements usually take on different appearances. Earth ---> ground and nature Fire ---> flame and lava Wind ---> air and lightning Water ---> liquid and ice None of these are superior than the other, just different forms of the elements Earth, Fire, etc. Reason we had this idea is because of the possibility of people wanting their characters to wield a different form of magic based off one of the elements.
So... if you're confused, sorry, but we would like your input on this idea.
