Nestled along the corridor between the Tipperary Police Agency and the Tipperary Charity Hospital is the Safe Haven Café. As the name implies, this is a place were harassed employees can come to put up their feet and have a cuppa. The food here is homey and cheap. Plus, there are further discounts during lunch time and the graveyard shift. Try to avoid going during lunch because the place will be packed! "Do you eat here often?" Rucran asked with his mouth still semi full.
The chocolate cake was harder to swallow than it looked. The rubbery feel only made him want to spit it out. Yet the lady had assured him that it's fresh. Semi fresh. How long had it been sitting there? The elven nurse resisted the temptation to check his wristwatch. Knowing that he is bound to have impending stomach cramps and running to the toilet would make him even more depressed. Reluctantly, Rucran pushed the plate away. He hated wasting food.
"The stew and spaghetti was good," he remarked thoughtfully.
The two empty bowls and three empty plates were piled in front of him as testament of his gastronomic approval. The intern turned around slightly, his arms resting on the back of his chair as he read the menu on the boards behind the cashier. He ignored the cake section.
"Ham and mushroom pizza... chicken gordon bleu... Oh! Look! There's Japanese food. On Tuesdays only."
He frowned. "What should I order next?"

Matsu sipped at his third cup of cocoa and prodded at a slice of strawberry cake with his fork; he still wasn't too sure why he had ordered it. His head was fairly muddled, but it was nothing compared to the knots his stomach had twisted into. While significantly calmer than he had been when they first entered the cafe (he had actually jumped when the cashier had asked him what he'd be ordering, much too lost in thought), and his life had at least stopped flashing before him with every blink of his eyes. His stomach still didn't feel capable of handling anything solid, however.
Rucran's question didn't register with him until a few seconds after it had been spoken. "Hmm--oh, yeah. Pretty much every night since I started work a month ago. It's not the best, but it's pretty good and it's convenient. Though I've actually been thinking of walking a few blocks down to Lugi's pizza one night..." For more reasons than one; Matsu had heard their food was excellent, but it was also supposedly headquarters of a very prominent mob family.
He'd been told to keep his nose out of it by most of his superiors, but the curiosity was killing him.
Once again, he was pulled from his wonderings by the rather hungry intern, who was looking to order yet another course. Matsu glanced up at the menu himself. "Most of their chicken is pretty good... wouldn't recommend their pizza, they have a bad habit of burning it or undercooking it."
He yawned. Swirling around the lukewarm cocoa in his cup, he wondered if he shouldn't try a cup of coffee next. All I can say is that my life is pretty plain I like watching the puddles gather rain And all I can do is just pour some tea for two And speak my point of view, but it's not sane male // 25 // 5’10” // human // Hyun Bin No Rain © Blind Melon post format by xDawnie

“Damn. And I was thinking of getting some pizza after you mentioned Lugi’s.”
Rucran went back to studying the menu. He scanned the miniscule description for chicken. There were at least three options available at the moment – chicken tortellini with alfredo sauce, grilled chicken Cesar salad sandwich and spicy chicken and pumpkin stew. The hungry elf excused himself as he left to place his newest order much to the cashier’s apparent amusement.
He noticed that Matsu hadn’t been all that attentive. Having only met the officer today, he daren’t hazard a guess why the man was so spacey. Most of the people here were. But they weren’t as friendly. Or new and disorientated.
Noticing how good the meatballs looked on the plate of a passing muse, Rucran returned to the cashier and ordered the same thing. This time the cashier didn’t look that amused anymore. He grinned and trotted over to collect his food. The grim woman made him feel guilty for ordering so much.
“The cashier must think that I want to eat them out of business,” he commented as he unloaded the tortellini and baked cheesy meatballs from his tray.
“You’d think they’ll be happy to earn more.”
He plopped himself them and attacked the tortellini as he waited for Matsu to reply. He only paused occasionally to spear a meatball or two before going back to demolishing the plate in front of him. Noticing the cashier looking at him, he blushed. He nudged the cheesy meatballs in the Japanese officer’s direction, gesturing for his dinner buddy to help himself to the dish. His mouth was too occupied for him to speak properly.

"Ah, sorry," Matsu said, laughing. "That's exactly why I've been thinking of going to Lugi's."
Matsu was yawning again when the elven nurse returned to the table. As the yawn subsided, he replied, "Yeah, the help here can be a little grouchy. But so are a lot of the people that eat here. I'm hoping I don't have to stay at this agency for long, it seems to have a bad effect on its officers.
"Oh, no thank you," he added at the offering of the meatball. "I actually ate right before my shift started." The way his stomach was churning now, he was very much wishing he hadn't. He took another sip from his cocoa. The cup was almost empty now. Drinking the stuff lukewarm wasn't ideal, but he didn't really want to waste it.All I can say is that my life is pretty plain I like watching the puddles gather rain And all I can do is just pour some tea for two And speak my point of view, but it's not sane male // 25 // 5’10” // human // Hyun Bin No Rain © Blind Melon post format by xDawnie
