Chapter 2
Her choice
It was one of those sunny days at church. The sun was hot and the wind breezy, a great time to fly kites. But even with such cheery weather one frustrated girl stood her ground with a frown on her face.
The weather has got nothing to do with her mood and neither does it have to do with flying kites around. What bothered her this time was the choice laid out in front of her…literally…
She knew this day would have to come sooner or later, but that doesn’t change the fact that it was unnerving and not to mention awkward. She heard her female cousin giggle behind her. Maybe she thought it was amusing to find a love triangle in full live version compared to those repetitive and corny love stories shown on prime time drama. Frankly, she couldn’t blame her cousin for it. She most probably would have done the same thing.
She returned her attention back to the boys. Her two so-called love interests looked at her with determined expressions, each one hoping to be chosen over the other and nervous about the possibility of rejection. This is serious business, alright. They were waiting for her answer.
Gradually, she pointed to the thin lad. She need not say, “I choose him”, it was clear enough what that meant. A few minutes of quiet, then the boys stood up. The chosen one had triumph painted all over his face while the other appeared depressed…hurt.
She did not like the idea of having it this way, but it has to be done. Suddenly, she felt like a bitch… a real mean bitch…
“Sorry” She wanted to tell her ex-boyfriend, the one she rejected. After muttering a silent farewell, her ex-boyfriend humbly left the scene for there was no need for him to be around anymore. She had a feeling that she had expected this result already. She felt the last spark of his hope dying the very instant she pointed thin guy. It was kind of cruel.
As she watched her ex-boyfriend walk away, she felt slightly sorry. She did not want to him to feel that way but she knew it was the best thing she had to do. She can’t just let him linger with false hope because that would make him a fool. She had fallen for another guy. It was a sad thing, but it was the truth. As cliché as it may sound, The truth shall set you free, and that is what he wanted to offer her ex. Freedom, freedom to be with someone else, someone who will appreciate his feelings more, someone else who will be more suited for him.
Her new love was beside her. She had a feeling that this guy expected this result, as well. His face was confident as she saw it. She faced him for awhile, wanting to convey her message mentally, Oh yeah, you win…
A choice has been made. Her eyes went to the direction of the church; she prayed she chose the right guy. She glanced at her new love again and was certain, that this person will offer her a future full of surprises.
Don’t let me down…
And then they strode off, carrying on with their ordinary lives, living onwards. But one thing is for sure, she’ll never regret choosing HIM. She’ll be damned if she did.
