1) What is VOCALOID?
“VOCALOID is a singing synthesizer application software developed by the Yamaha Corporation that enables users to synthesize singing by typing in lyrics and melody.”

2) Why is VOCALOID so popular?
That would be credited to Crypton Future Media for starting the VOCALOID 2 series, starting with the very popular Hatsune Miku, and the Japanese video sharing website, Nico Nico Douga. Since the release of Hatsune Miku, some people have made songs using the VOCALOID software and posted it up online. This helped build up the popularity of the software, to the point where many people are into the contribution of making VOCALOID songs.

3) Is VOCALOID an anime?
No. Many people have asked this question before, but VOCALOID is simply a software program.

4) But I saw a VOCALOID manga series.
Yes, Hatsune Mix is a manga series based off of VOCALOID. But that is merely a spin-off product of what VOCALOID really is.

5) Then what is up with all those anime looking characters?
Those are merely the mascot appearance of the individual VOCALOID programs. To put it simply, how they would look as humans, or in the real world.

6) What can we do in this club?
This club serves as a discussion and sharing center for everything about VOCALOID. You can discuss about the VOCALOID characters, or their songs, share PVs and songs with other members, and, if there is a demand for it, we may even host RPs and competitions based off of VOCALOID.

7) What is a PV?
PV is an abbreviation of Picture Video. It's like a music video in a sense. While the VOCALOID programs can only make the songs, some people feel that a video would give the songs an added flair. The PVs are the results. If you look carefully, most PVs consist of drawn art put together as a video. Some PVs are created with a coalition of artists over the Internet that contribute their effort to make the PV.

Hi...erm...I'm still quite in the dark with this. Do you maybe have a link to an example of this VOCALOID phenomena? Or should I just try and google it?

Yes, there is a news report/small document about the VOCALOID phenomena from Asahi Shimbun in Japan. And let's not forget Wikipedia itself, but the English VOCALOID Wikipedia article is lacking in information when compared with the Japanese article. If you check out the Japanese VOCALOID Wikipedia article, they have individual sections for every VOCALOID characters and spans many pages more than the English article.
