Despite the spelling, Ýstcester is not pronounced Yst’cester at all but more like ‘Easter’. Perhaps this corruption of the name gives some reminder of just how old this settlement is.
There are very few permanent residents in Ystcester, more commonly referred to as the City of the Winds, now, and most of them are clerks, shop owners and healers. Due to its location, close to where two passes merge into one, there is a constant stream of travellers through the city and they come on all sorts of steeds. There are stables for steeds that travel on foot and aviaries, perches and landing plateaus for those who fly. The city itself is carved into the mountain side, in places the mountain face is shaped so much that rows and rows of buildings seem to grow out of the ledges before the mountain starts. In others the ledges are so narrow that you have to cling on to the rock face for dear life to negotiate them; it’s a very long way down, even at the lowest points.
The city was founded many centuries ago when the world was still weird by ‘Wind God’ Alagos. Whether he is actually a god or whether he had godlike powers bestowed on him by accident is anyone’s guess. He hasn’t been seen for centuries, however he is said to still be in the city. Myths say that Alagos was ordered to leave his creation but did not wish to, so he sealed himself in a suite of underground caverns and is still there today – this is supported by the gale-force winds that frequently howl through the pass. Travellers have been trying to find him for almost as long as he’s been sealed off but so far no one has found so much as a trace.
Each thread is a location in Ystcester. If the action moves location, please change thread;
Eg. The action moves from the stores to the caverns, so you would stop posting in The Stores and traipse over to The Caverns. Comprenez?
NB: pictures for the RP threads will be added as I find appropriate ones.
