Name : Ascatal
Full name Ascatal Tellahintal
Birth name : Tellahintal --menaing last child of the city
Name given by adoptive parents : Ascatal -- means swift or hasty foot in the mixture of elvish and languages of the Edain in the first age.
Ascatal was born in Gondolin after the Nírnaeth Arnoediad , The battle of Unnumbered Tears in which the forces of Morgoth broke last armies of the Noldor and their allies ending there siege upon him and Thangorodrim. One of the surviving soldiers that returned with Turgon to the city was a guardsman who was newly wed just prior to the battle . Ascatal's father was of House Swallow while his mother was of House Harp and blessed with a pure and sweet singing voice and the news some years later they were expecting a child brought new hope to the city in the darkling days after the great defeat.
The Birth of their child was a blessing for the entire city and a needed boost after the loss of many at the Nírnaeth Arnoediad, births had become rather rare by this time for Turgon himself came and laid a blessing upon the child and foretold he would have a long life, but that all else was hidden from his eyes. The King also gave him his name foreseeing he was destined to be last child born in Gondolin, but not why this was to be. This was 6 months before the city fell.
The king's nephew Maeglin betrayed the city to Morgoth and all was in ruin. Ascatal's father was slain while trying to lead his wife and child to safety and orcs slew his mother as well and were about to slay him as well but just then Thronodor, Lord of the great Eagles along with several of his people swept down and scattered the orcs and flew off with the child as they were ordered to do so by Ulmo of the Valar. They then took the child to a childless Edain couple and giving him the child's story and asking that they keep it hidden from him as it would be revealed to him in time.
The couple agreed although they did ask why an elven child was brought to men to raise to which Thorondor replied that this was the will Ulmo and flew off to fulfill the other duty they had been given and taking the tale to Celebrimbor so that it could make its slow cautious way to Ascatal.
The couple raised the child well , naming him Ascatal, as he was swiftly progress from walking to running at a young age. Ascatal grew up as happy and healthy as any child could in those day and learned much of the sword from his father who was a swordsman of some renown. Upon his his twentieth year Ascatal for the first time encountered other elves, a Hunting party and they questioned him and he told them what little he knew and the leader an elf named Gildor advised stay with his adoptive parents for now as surely fate intended for him to remain there.
When Ascatal arrived home he told his parents what had happened and they told him that in time he would need to seek out his own kind for they could teach him far more than they could ever hope to.
The years past and Ascatal's parents grew old and passed away as all mortals are doomed to do. Ascatal buried them and sang a lament over their graves. Soon he set out to search for his own kind in a few weeks he caught up with a group of elves going south and upon hearing his tale they offered to let him join them and he accepted and lived with the elves of what would become Lothlorien for many years learning many skills, including more talent with a sword and a bit less with a bow than is usual for an elf.
Some time in the second age Ascatal ventured out of Lothlorien on his own to explore middle earth. Galadriel had foreseen this , advising her Husband, Lord Celeborn " That they were rocks destined to grow moss , while Ascatal was a rolling stone, destined to seldom to find rest until he sought out the last ship to go into the west. "
The tale of Ascatal's heritage and birth was first passed Celebrimbor to Gil Galad and then finally to Elrond of Imadris, and it was from he that Ascatal finally learned the full truth of his birth and rescue from death, although not even Elrond the wise could say why he of all the people in the city was saved.
Ascatal would then go on to hunt and harass the forces of Sauron from the shadows, leaving the glory to others as he desired none of it.
Ascatal found me while working on an old LOTR RP and finally after much begging by me has consented to be my muse.
