So I was hit in the face by Lovai's lyrics (shame they're in French seeing as this is an English-speaking forum but still) and after that I thought about the various options I had for Phoenix. All of them were stretched but then I listened to No Light, No Light by Florence + the Machine and I got the same wakeup I did with Lovai's... so I guess these are Phoenix's.
No light, no light in your bright blue eyes I never knew daylight could be so violent A revelation in the light of day You can choose what stays and what fades away And I'd do anything to make you stay

Vidar: I am loathed to flee any battle, and it ill-befits an Elven prince to look stupid.
Sam: Yeah, good luck with that.

Things to do with films. [x] = done
[x] make the first thing I think of when I hear 'Lee Pace' The Fall and not Thranduil [ ] not thinking about The Fall and therefore grinning like a loon every time I hear Beethoven's 7th [ ] thinking about the actual Charles Darwin and not Leo Bill as 'the English naturalist; Charles Darwin' and thereby cracking up every time I hear the name [ ] not linking everything to flaming Fall quotes [hell it's bad enough that I relate everything to Thranduil without something else]

The awkward moment when you have an awesomely awesome vampire name only to realise it can be shortened to... Eric. 'Eric the Vampire'.. could create a comic element I suppose

So I've just had this conversation with Chaos:
Elindë ღ says -about the caverns undernearth Helm's Deep- Gimli:'"Aye indeed, they [dwarves] would pay pure gold for a brief glance!" '"And I would give gold to be excused," said Legolas, "and double to be let out, if strayed in!"'
Chaos says lol
Elindë ღ says and there's this bit that I find funny but no one else seems to -to Merry and Pippin- Gimli: Where did you come by the weed, you villains?... I am so torn between rage and joy that if I do not burst it will be a marvel Legolas: I would sooner learn how they came by the wine. why does the phrase 'choose your poison' come to mind?
Chaos says lolololol, i like that one best
Elindë ღ says but yeah, all of those cut out of the films
Chaos says sad...
Elindë ღ says mind you thranduil says so little that maybe they'll stay?
Chaos says or he'll be a silent presence
Elindë ღ says though I think the thing about 'bilbo baggins, you are more worthy to wear the armour of elf-princes than many who have looked more comely in it, but I wonder if Thorin Oakenshield will see it so. I have more knowledge of dwarves in general than you do, perhaps, and I advise you to stay with us. Here you shall be hounoured and thrice welcome.' I bet they'll cut out the first bit
The part in italics being one of the Elvenking's 'speeches' in The Hobbit. I didn't know I was going to type it out until I started (ie had no prep or thinking time to 'remember' it) and I didn't look in the book until after I'd sent it. I got one word wrong... ONE WORD! I wrote 'stay' rather than 'remain'. O.o

Still working out how I look so pale in these photos. Seriously, I'm as white as Phoenix.

[this is mildly amusing cause I'll be doing linguistics at uni. Can I also just point out that, while it is true that I want to hit any Brit who uses Americanisms, I have nothing against them really. My reaction is exaggerated for possible comic effect]
Linguists: we are very open minded about language! Nothing is wrong, just different. It is impossible to get syntax, verb formation or pronunciation wrong; people merely differ from the norm. Languages are constantly evolving and therefore we cannot afford to be snobbish about new jargon and slang that we do not understand or like the sound of. The worst thing a linguist can do is assume the linguistical highground with their own understanding of their language and thence endeavour to change how others speak to how they speak or, even worse, to halt the evolution of their language entirely... [etc. etc.]
Eli: -sitting at the back of the lecture theatre waging war against 'foul abominations' such as 'gotten', 'sidewalk', 'railroad' and the lack of u in 'color' etc.- -mutters- Bloody Americanisms! Coming over here, taking over Britain like every other American thing.

Interviewer: Didn't you use that [speaking like Bart] also when you visited Bucking.ham Palace as well? Nancy Cartwright: Oh yeah, this is a good one. It wasn't- it was near Buhkiyng'.haym Palace...
... It's Buck.'nn'm; get it right!
