Eva was about to do the same with the remaining bits of dough when their grandmother told them to wash their hands. She sneaked her brother a look when her grandmother's back was turn. She grinned before wafting the ball of dough at Atty. She quickly ducked after that.
Tomtom shuffled it sleepily. It had gotten a whiff of the freshly cut ingredients. There was meat! Fresh meat! It walked over to the strange female and tugged on her skirt. It pointed towards the counter. It was sure the meat was there.
Eva giggled as she remained crouched on her stool. "Tomtom must be hungry!"

"My mother was..."
Selena leaned against Vergil slightly. She realized with a sinking feeling that she never told Vergil the most important thing about her family. She had deliberately kept it hidden because she wasn't sure how he would have reacted.
"Talking to her will be like talking to Eva or Atty."
She smiled fondly. "She had me at sixteen but she could barely take care of herself. It was rather fun, honestly. It was like having an older sister around."
"Only father thought it was novel having her around," she thought bitterly.
Till now she resented that her father never loved her. The man hated the fact that his wife seemed to love her more than him. No one knew that they had been rivals for her mother's affection. Many believed that she was simply a selfish brat. They chose to believe that her father was a good man...
"No one understood why father loved her," she said quietly.
"His friends thought it was a pity that such a brilliant man would marry someone like her."
She laughed. "I'm glad that he's dead even if Dion claims otherwise."

Atty ducked and tosed the dough at his sister before shuffling over to wash his hands. He gave Tomtom an odd look.
Eva gave Tomtom a handful of meat and frowned.
"Where on earth is Augustus?" she murmured.
---
Vergil nodded slowly, taking in this information as best he could.
"I understand," he said quietly, thinking it over. He wasn't sure what to say or how to act.

Tomtom took the pieces of meat from the lady's hand. It shuffled to a corner and sat down. It placed the meat on the floor. It reached down and picked up one piece with both hands and started eating. It hated being sloppy because it has to have a bath afterwards!
Eva bent over it and petted its head fondly. "Hungry Tomtom..."
She ignored the floury hand prints she left all over its head as she ran over to the sink. "Done Atty?"

Selena rested her head on Vergil's shoulder. "I don't know if she'll appear. I'm worried. She really is too trusting."
She pulled away. She hesitated before she leaned forward and kissed him. She smirked.
"Ready?"
Letting go wasn't very comfortable. It was like falling into a deep trance. One that you can't fight against. She wished she could spend more time with Vergil and triplets, but ... whoever it was, they better kind enough to let her take over again after awhile. She hoped that she prepared Vergil enough for the worse case scenario. Few people could relate to her mother. Even she found it frustrating at times...

Eva watched Tomtom curiously, she was having a hard time getting used to giant lizards. The kids she could deal with, but the creatures....
Atty nodded and flicked water at his sister before jumping up and sitting on the table. His grandmother made him get down and sit in a chair.
---
Vergil kissed her forehead and nodded before getting up to sit across from her. He didn't want to cause...who ever showed up to get angry. It would be incredibly awkward and probably painful.

Eva squealed as the cold water splashed her. She was dying to climb up too, but she couldn't because Atty was still standing on the stool. She closed her eyes and tried to send the droplets flying back towards her younger brother. It didn't work! Instead, the droplets froze along her cheeks. She quickly flicked them away. It was cold!
She scrambled up on the stool and started washing her hands. Suddenly, she remembered something. "Grandma, did Grandpa visit us two months ago?"
She had forgotten to thank her Grandfather. The man said he had given her Tomtom after all.

Selena smiled as she closed her eyes and relaxed. She fell backwards onto the seat. Her red hair slowly darkening as her body seemed to shrink. The person sat up after awhile as she rubbed her eyes slightly. Arianna's face split into a sunny smile when she spotted Vergil sitting opposite her. She stood up, unsure whether she should approach him or not. Somehow the thought of being alone in a foreign place with a complete stranger didn't seem to bother her at all.
"Hello! What is your name?" Her soft voice was heavily accented.
What was remarkable was perhaps her height. She was a much shorter than both Selena and Qwertel.

Eva frowned, thinking. "No. You're Granfather has been home for a while. I don't think he's been to visit you."
Atty bounced in his seat. He wanted pizza and he wanted it now.
---
The half-demon cocked an eyebrow, torn between amusement and curiousity. "My name is Vergil. And you are?"
He wondered who she was. She seemed rather...cheerful.

"Oh..."
Eva jumped down from the stool. "But the man said that Grandpa gave me Tomtom."
She knelt down beside the tonberry and picked up the last piece of meat before it go reach for it. She grinned as she attempted to feed her pet. She didn't think too much of it. She could always ask Grandpa later.

Arianna faltered a little. She wasn't sure what Vergil wanted. There were so many things she could say and all of them were correct. She decided to go with the safest answer. Most people wanted to know this when they first meet her. That's what her husband told her.
"I am human."

Eva watched her grandaughter worriedly. Was there some other grandparent out there buying the triplet's gifts? Or was this someone who was pretending to be?
Atty frowned. "When'll the pizza be done?"
Eva blinked and went about finishing the pizzas.
---
"And I am not," Vergil retorted calmly. He was slightly confused. That was...such an odd thing to announce the first time you met some one. He usually didn't tell people. Just like Dante.
He thought over what Selena had said and decided to try again. "What is your name?"

Eva tickled Tomtom when she realized that his eyelids started dropping. Her tonberry seemed so sleepy nowadays. Its tail was changing too. She was a worried. She didn't want Tomtom to get sick.
"Atty, come look!"
She wanted her brother to see it too. Aunt Erin always told to ask someone if she wasn't sure. She would have asked Gus, but he wasn't here. Only Atty.
~+~+~+~+~+~
"You are not...?"
Arianna frowned. She was confused. Was something wrong with Vergil? He didn't finish speaking. She tugged at her left sleeve nervously.
"My... my name is Arianna," she said quietly.
However, she couldn't stop thinking about Vergil's previous response. She was still confused and afraid. Was he angry?

Atty wandered over, peeking curiously at Tomtom.
"Is he moltin'?" he asked curiously, poking at the tonberry.
---
"Human," he clarified. "I am not human."
Not human...oddly enough, the words echoed around his head, confusing him. He made himself smile, which was surprisingly easier than he thought, and tried to look as unfrightening as possible. It probably didn't help that he had Yamato with him.
"Arianna?" Vergil repeated, looking thoughtful. "You have a daughter, don't you? Selena?"

Eva shook her head. "His tail. It's weird."
She pulled Tomtom's tail from under its robes and lifted it up for Atty to see. She ignored the Tomtom's shrill protests. It was far too fussy in her opinion. Now that Atty mentioned it, Tomtom changed color. She never noticed how pale it was till now.
"Is he sick?" Her voice trembled slightly.
She hated thinking about her pet getting sick.

Arianna jerked her head up suddenly when she heard Vergil mention Selena. She ran over and grabbed his coat. Her eyes shone with worry.
"Yes, she is my little girl. Have you seen her?"
Did he know where Selena went? She can't help worrying. Her little girl never left like this before.

"Do we need to tek him to a doctor?" Atty asked. He had an idea. "Gus can ask him if he's sick. And then we can take him, okay, Eva?"
He hugged his sister, not wanting her to be sad. He hated when she was sad.
---
Vergil stiffened, slightly. He had a thing about people touching him. Very few people could do it without him getting angry.
"I have," he said quietly, thinking of how to ask without frightening Arianna. "She wanted me to ask a favor of you." He hesitated, finding it hard to ask for help. "Someone is trying to take ou-my sons and daughter away. Selena said you would be able to help me find out who."

Eva let go off Tomtom's tail when her brother hugged her. It distracted her and she stopped sniffing. She hugged him back tightly. She was glad he was here. It comforted her. She hoped Gus was back soon. Atty was right. Their big brother always knows what to do.
The little girl turned to look at her Grandmother after she let go. She tried to stop thinking about Tomtom. She sensed that her younger brother didn't like her being sad.
"Grandma, is dinner ready yet?"
~+~+~+~+~+~
Arianna didn't realize that Vergil had stiffened slightly when she grabbed him. She continued clutching his coat. The material began creasing under her firm grip. She clenched her fists even tighter as he spoke to her. The words went over her head. She didn't understand what he was saying at all. She only managed to catch a few words here and there.
She shook her head slowly. "You talked. I don't know what."
Her heart began pounding as she backed away a little and curled up on the floor. She put her hands on her head and tried to make herself as small as possible. She started panicking slightly as the bile rose up her throat. She didn't like feeling like this. It made her scared and miserable. She was also worried that he would scold her or hit her. Maybe he wasn't as nice as he seemed?

"It should be ready in a moment," Eva replied serenely, cleaning off her kitchen counters.
---
Vergil took a moment to calm down and said gently, "Arianna? Are you alright?"
He stroked her hair, finding this to be very odd.
"Would it be alright if I asked you something?"

Eva nodded and bounded over to her grandmother. "Should we start setting the table?"
She loved putting the plates on the place mats. Grandma has some of the prettiest plates she has ever seen. She smiled.
"I promise to be careful this time round."
She wiggled her right foot nervously. She still felt a little guilty for breaking so many plates the last time she tried to set the table. Aunt Erin told her not to run the next time and to try and take the plates one by one.
~+~+~+~+~+~
Arianna keened a little as Vergil stroked her hair. She relaxed when she realized that he wasn't angry with her. Her breathing slowed down. She was finally able to hear what he was saying again. She removed her hands from her head and sat down. She nodded slowly.
"Yes."
She had heard someone said something like that before. Dion had explained what they meant. She now knows that they wanted to ask her a question and not to find out whether asking her a question was good or bad. People were confusing at times. They say things that they don't mean.
