-dumps bag on floor and pouts-
-on chair- heya! what's that on your hand?
-has red cones all over her right hand- it's bloody heat rash! and I've got mild heat stroke too!
-looks sympathetic- Put some witch hazel on it.
It's so hot right now! Seriously is this going to be our summer? It feels like summer already.
-raises eyebrows- You're telling me. -gestures to robes draped over back of chair- Do you know how hot it is?
20? 22? I'd guess. It should be 8 or 9.
Mae, it's between 7 or 8 at home.
That's 14 or 15 degrees cooler than here! You're so lucky!
It'll be hotter than here soon. Contintental climate as opposed to your maritime one. Cold winters, hot summers.
It's not too bad though.
No, I never said it was. I guess the forest evens things out a bit.
Don't you ever get sunstroke?
Not really; shaded by leaves.
Urgh, lucky. Hey, d'you know the trick for telling when it's hot and when it's cold?
-grins- When it's warmer inside than outside it's cold, and when it's cooler inside than out it's hot. And in my realm it's still slightly cooler out.
-flops- -puts on DVD-
What's this?
Skins
Isn't that an 18 rating? -grins impishly
Fifteen days, bastard! Fifteen days!
-cackles-

-comes in with some cooked animal- D'you want any?
No, I'm not hungry. What is it, anway?
Swan. I caught it on the Isis
-splutters-
Don't knock it till you've tried it!
You killed a swan?!
Well evidently
An English swan?
Yes, tastes a bit grimy actually now you mention it
ELDU! All the swans here belong to the Queen!
And?
Only royalty can kill and eat swans!
And?
YOU'RE NOT... you are royalty. >.<
It's very good. You should try some.
I'm not... -sighs- oh why do you have to be so difficult?

From Tolkien Gateway: The name Thranduil means "Vigorous spring" in Sindarin, from tharan "vigorous" and tuil "spring". Though the name is said to be of Silvan origin, Tolkien's notes on tharan state it was used only in Sindarin. Oh! That's more elegant than the other translations I've found. But is that Spring the season or spring as in water? -looks up 'tuil in her Gateway to Sindarin book- It's not there. -looks up 'spring'- still nothing. -lying on his back on Eli's bed, head hanging over the edge- -looks at her upside-down- Well obviously; why would a Silvan word be in a Sindarin glossary? But there's no Silvan stuff on the net... Ohh! Eldu; which spring is it? What does Thranduil mean? Why should I know? I just answer to it.

Today marks the day that Eli and Phoenix found out about the Thranduil/Oropher shippers.
-repeatedly headdesking vey hard- -can see the humour in Fëanorionan shipping but this? No way on earth-
-livid- -shouting and screaming Sindarin obscenities- -goes home to throw things... preferably at people (who were in the wrong place at the wrong time)-
[EDIT: Now there's just the two of them again Lovai is moving back into this thread. And he may not appear much but Hallen[99CC66] will be that colour, for what it's worth]

-is inundated- -bounds up to Eli and shows palm in 'hi' gesture-Er, hi. I just taught him that.-smacks Hallen's hand down- Don't do that; it's rude.-blinks- -shrugs- -taps Eli and mimes drawing--finds pencil and paper- -starts sketching--blinking at Eldu- How is that rude? It's like doing this -gives Lovai both middle fingers-No it isn't! It's a non-verbal greeting! Not where I come from.-amused- -has fallen into this trap herself- Alright then, how do you sign hello to each other?-loosely cups hands infont of himself--cocky due to his having taught Hallen something (which is no mean feat)- That's not saying 'hi'; that's saying 'help! I'm carrying a heavy sack of invisible potatoes'!-surprised; unlike Lovai to make a snide remark like that (snide remarks are his and Eli's job)--a good natured argument ensues--semi-oblivious- -happily drawing the two Elves with scary accuracy-You know I preffered it when Lovai wasn't quite so confident -kidding really, enjoying watching Phoenix bouncing off someone new-

I saw this picture and thought of you: -blinks-It is spider. -sarcastically- Really? I'm so glad you cleared that up for me. Why did you think of me?Well you guys have a spider problem- Had a spider problem.oh... have you eaten them all? -splutters- NO! We don't eat spiders! I feel sick even contemplating the notion. Not even this kind of spider? Yummy yummy dessert spider. 'Tis crunchable. 'Tis tasty. -backs away slightly freaked out-

ELDU! There's a big-ass spider in the bathroom!
Can it fit in your palm?
...Yes-
Then it's not big, not even worth note in fact. -goes to check it out- ...That has to be one of the smallest spiders I have ever seen!
Eldu...
Alright, it's big for over here but in the general scheme of things this is just a blip. It's not even a blip, it's like an atom. Besides, it can't be big; there's no meat on it
Oh... wait what?! You... said you didn't eat spiders!!
-dead pan serious stare- -cracks up after about half a minute- Of course not! Spiders are the spawn of complete and utter evil. No, whoever was hunting them piles them up in a large clearing and burns the buggers.
Thank goodness. I couldn't imagine you eating spiders.
-as though Eli hadn't spoken- And we dance around them and wish them back to the hell hole from whence they came. And under the music you can hear the hiss as their flesh expands and their joints pop. And sometimes the back of a female spider cracks and all her unborn offspring pour out and lie twitching and dieing by the embers and they are already the size of your palm and that causes for more wine because it means that we've killed the next generation of the bastards before they could wreak havoc over the forest.
-blinks-
-coming back to himself- Happily they've all but gone now the darkness has fled.
You really hate spiders, don't you?
We [the Wood-elves] all do. We loathe and despise them.

[When Phoenix met Rhaeadr (they met for just long enough to have this exchange - Rhaeadr had come to find out where Lovai was.)]
Rhaeadr: -all majestic and powerful-like- I... am the Elvenking of the Floating Forest, so called because when the morning mists rise from out the glades and off the florest floor it does seem that the canopy... is floating on a silvery sea...
-matching the over-wraught tone- I... am the Elvenking of Greenwood, so called because it is a wood... and it is green.

[the 'official' introduction of Eldu Hallen and I to Rhaeadr - seems he remembered it after all but think we just come from a different realm rather than a different world]
-waiting to be called in-
He has quite a quick temper; he's likely to act first and ask questions later.
>.< How did this happen?
-straightening Hallen's collar- I'm glad it did; now I have an excuse to have a word with him about parenting, specifically how to do it
-goes an odd colour- Please, don't say anything about that! He's a good father; I love him. Keep your nose out of our business
-playfully raises eyebrow-
Please try not to say anything antagonising. Like I said he has a furious temper and dislikes strangers-
I think I'll just hand myself in to the guards right now and be done with it.
-laughs suddenly- Oh this is fantastic! This is what it must be like begging an audience with me!

I should not have asked Thranduil to keep me motivated to revise... every time I stop it's
Ffs, woman: get your head down and do some Valar-forsaken work! It's just 4 more days of this and then you're free: you can sleep then. You can listen to music then as well. Turn that contraption off and copy out more notes! You have to revise every hour you have or you'll fail your exams and be forced to live in a ditch. Does living in a ditch sound appealing to you? No? Well do some f-cking revision then!
I'm this close to slapping him...

I want to go to Stockholm now...
You should go, definitely.
You've been?
No but I agree that it looks pretty and it's in Scandinavia. I love Scandinavia; it's the area around here most like home. Please say you're going.
You can go on your own, surely.
Of course but I'd like to go with you.
Awww, Eldu; you're sweet -coughs-whenyouwanttobe-coughs- but it's still a very maybe-ish maybe. Hell we still haven't even booked the San Fran holiday.
-appears from nowhere- You're going to San Fran? Can I come?
Oh god >.<
Please please please I can't travel on my own for a few more years and I really want to go there. You have to book it!
Lovai...
You shouls book going to Stockholm, too
Guys I'm not made of money...
Then go to the States, definitely!
England's more Scandinavia than anywhere else, historically. You're a northern country no matter how much you pretend otherwise.
I know and I do want to go to Stockholm.... but I've wanted to go to the US for years...
You've wanted to go to New Zealand for years and that's no closer to happening.
You have to go to the States sometime soon! Please? He can go to Sweden on his own but I'm stuck!
Sweden's closer... and cheaper.
But they speak a different language in Sweden!
They speak a different language in the States; your point?
That's just being pedantic
Guys, nothing you say will change my family's decision.
But we can help suade yours-
Thranduil! In this debate you have no place!
O.o
-gives long, searching loook- The last person to say that had a very bad time.
Bring it.

Everyone's around as in everyone's on Earth but no one's here and I feel neglected.
Thranduil and his shadow (ie Galion) are in the Swedish forests after not leaving Mirkwood for weeks. Mind you Eldu's still moping so I'm glad he isn't around just now.
Lovai's taken Hallen over to the States for a while. I don't know exactly where but I have my supicions. I just hope they come back at some point...
Even Creidhe, whom I've hardly met yet, is off wandering. He's in Florence.
They make going abroad look easy...

Hwæt!

-striding around as he recites- We Gar-Dean in gear-dagum,
... Ah no...
-leans closer to Eli and twtiches eyebrows- Þeod-cyninga þrym gefrunon, hu ða æþelingas ellen fremedon.
Eldu...
-strides away again- Oft Scyld Scefing sceaþena þreatum, Monegum mægþum meodo-setla ofteah-
...please tell me you're not reciting the whole thing?
-talking over Eli- Egsode Eorle, syððan ærest wearð Feasceft funden; he þæs frofre gebad: Weox under wolcnum, weorð-myndum þah,
-something about his manner tells her:- ...He's going for the whole thing...
-le wild Galion appears- -listens for a while & cottons on-
Oðþæt him æghwylc þara ymb-sittendra Ofer hron-rade hyran scolde, Gomban gyldan:
Galion please; make him stop!
-looks quizzical- -catches Thranduil's eye- -grins- þæt wæs god cyning!
-headdesks-
[They're reciting Beowulf. Oh how wonderful it is to have muses written by an Old English professor.]

-comes in to the sound of singing- What... what's going on? Oh hey, Lovai; you're back! You're tanned!
Lovai: Yeah, hi! Er... Creidhe asked Saeros if there was anything he was good at and Saeros said singing. So Creidhe asked him to prove it so I found the lyrics and sheet music for This Is Where I Belong-
Why that song?
It was on your playlist and Saeros was willing to sing it.
On my... you hacked my computer...
Just this once. Thranduil was the one who gave me the password.
Great...
Well yeah anyway Thranduil transliterated the words into Tengwar and here we are. Saeros wasn't lying was he? About being a good singer...
No, he wasn't...
Saeros: -is smiling for once; likes being praised for his singing-
Creidhe: -providing the percussion-
Thranduil: -playing his viola, but stops an provides backing vocals when the song requires-
Galion: -sitting and watching & listening for the most part but also joins as backing-
Hallen: -sitting enthralled, watching the colours come off the musicians/singers; has very strong synesthesia-
-also enjoying the music but bursting to ask who Creidhe and Saeros are; this is the first time they've met-
... I miss everything, don't I?
-song ends-
-starts singing Gil-Galad Was An Elvenking-
-accompanies on viola-
Who was Gil-Galad?
Please tell me you're winding us up. He's... he's not winding us up >.<
