“They must have used it as a portal,” Credo said very quietly.
“What‘re they?” Nero inquired.
“Do you ever listen to Sanctus? They are demons.”
“I’m scared,” Kyrie whimpered. “I want to go home.”
“It’s going to be okay,” Credo told her reassuringly. “The Savior will save us.”
“The Savior isn’t real,” Nero observed, ignoring Credo’s death-glare. Despite his words, he held tighter to Kyrie’s hand.

Unedited bit from Rebellion. X3 I lubs Credo and Nero's bickering.

"I want to ask that babe over there out on a date. You got any tips on how I can do that without looking like a douche?" "I don't know and I don't care." "Come on! I'm asking your advice here!" "Then I'd advise you to leave me alone or die." "Dude, if you don't know how to sweet talk chics, just say so." --- Claire on DMC forums. This was...an example for writing out character dialouge. Can you figure out which twin is which?

“No, you don’t,” Kyrie retorted fiercely, struggling to keep her voice down. She curled closer to Nero, burying her face in the warm material of his vest. Tears threatened to fall from her chestnut coloured eyes as his unbandaged arm wrapped tighter around her.
“You’ll die,” she added when he didn’t respond. “I know you will. And I…I couldn’t stand it if you…if you left me again.”
“I’m not going to die on you anytime soon,” Nero said easily.
Kyrie stared. He’d said it so simply it almost sounded like he believed it.
There was nothing for it. She pleadingly whispered, “Don’t do it.”
The silence stretched. For a long time, the only moving object in the cemetery was the snow swirling around them. Nero’s breath hissed out in a nearly inaudible sigh, and Kyrie could feel his pulse pounding beneath her fingers.
“I won’t,” Nero lied.
Kyrie sank back into his embrace. They both knew it was a lie, but, for the moment, the lie was more comforting than any truth.
-*-*-
Kyrie flinched away from him as he approached. This man…this demon…he was so different than the night before when he’d been utterly devoid of life and emotion. Now…he reminded her of a cat. And the girl had the unsettling feeling that she was, as of this moment, the mouse. She stared into his eyes, those steely blue depths that terrified her beyond measure, and felt the urge to push him away.
She couldn’t bring herself to touch him, though. That was too…unthinkable a deed to do. Never mind the fact she’d nearly been laying on him the night before.
“Don’t--”
“Foolish girl,” the blue-clad man breathed when he finally stopped his approach. “You really have no idea what’s happened, do you?”
Kyrie could do nothing more than shake her head.
-*-*-
“What are you hiding from me?” Kyrie inquired, her gaze steady.
As usual, Vergil never acknowledged her.
The girl contemplated telling him she’d listened in on his conversation with Shadow. That at least part of his game was up. A month ago, she would have cowered at the thought and hidden away all knowledge of the conversation so she never thought of it again.
But that was a month ago, and this was now. Their relationship could no longer be described as that of a servant and her master. No. It was a battle of wills, now. Vergil had always been determined to break her; perhaps that was why Kyrie had the urge to return the favor.
“Damn you, Vergil. Don’t ignore me,” she exploded. “‘I want to help you.’ You've said that so many times. Well why can’t you see that I want to help you? Stop running away.”
He looked at her as though he was seriously considering killing her for that statement. But the girl wasn’t about to be dissuaded.
“I know what you’re doing. Why you push away everyone and never, ever say what you’re thinking. Don’t think I haven’t noticed. You’re playing both sides, aren’t you?” When Kyrie received no reply, yet again, she added, “If Dante is alive…you have no right to see him. Don’t you think about anyone but yourself?”
The look in his eyes was all the answer she needed.
-*-*-
Beatrice and Credo stood watching the pair bicker across the table. The second Lady pulled a gun, they were out of there. Their boss may be nearly indestructible, but they certainly weren’t.
All of this…over a demon? Credo thought frustratedly.
Beatrice sighed, snapping Credo out of his thoughts.
“All this tension between them,” the Italian woman observed. “They should just screw and get it over with.”
Credo stared, giving her a look that said very clearly, “Excuse me?”
The younger woman flashed an odd smile. “Kidding.”

"It will go away," Rose whispered, almost to herself. "Promise. Tomorrow or the next day, you'll close your eyes and it will be gone."
I looked up. Rose dropped her hand and took a step back. Beyond the propped-open door was a row of sinks and mirrors. "Really?" I asked miserably.
She smiled weakly. "That's what they say. I'm still waiting. I think they all are."
Feeling foolish, I awkwardly got to my feet and flushed the toilet. I brushed myself off, glad the FIB kept their bathroom cleaner than I kept mine. Rose had gone to the sink, giving me a moment to gather myself. I left the stall feeling embarrassed and stupid. Glenn would never let me live this down.
"Better?" Rose asked as she dried her hands, and I gave her a loosed-necked nod, ready to burst into tears again because she wasn't calling me a newbie or making me feel inadequate or that I wasn't strong. "Here," she said, taking my purse from the sink and handing it to me. "I thought you might want your makeup."
I nodded again. "Thanks, Rose."
She smiled, the age lines in her face making her look even more comforting. "Don't worry about it. This is a bad one."
She turned to go, and I blurted, "How do you deal with it? How do you keep from falling apart? That-What happened to them is horrible. How can a person do that to another?"
Rose took a slow breath. "You cry, you get angry, then you do something about it."
I watched her leave, the clack of her quick heels sounding sharp before the door closed.
Yeah. I can do that.

From Kim Harrison's book The Good, The Bad, and The Undead. I just love that scene, even if the murders they're referring to were really, really gross. XP
